Where have you been? - Derek Harper

Derek Harper......the man.

Drafted in 1983 by the Mavs in the 1st round (11th pick) out of University of Illinois. He played 9 and a half years with Dallas before being traded mid-season to the Eastern Conference powerhouse New York Knicks(1994) for Tony Campbell(Remember him?) and a 1997 first round draft pick.

He provided veteran leadership, shutdown defense, and a solid three. Tough as nails, beautiful stroke, maybe the best man to man defender at the guard position of that time, besides Payton and Jordan of course.

However, after a stint of 2 and a half years being a solid leader with the Knicks he signed back with Dallas, then played a year in Orlando and a year in L.A L.A. land before hanging it up after 16 seasons. You can now catch the beloved Knick Harper doing color commentating for the Mavericks.
